Our Acts of Collective Worship

The daily act of Christian collective worship plays a central role in the life and work at Moorlands C.E.Primary Academy. It provides us with valuable opportunities to reaffirm our explicitly Christian values and ethos. It offers important opportunities to strengthen our sense of community, belonging and inclusiveness and to reinforce the respect and care we have for each other. Through collective worship we make a significant contribution to the religious, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of those present.

Each year we hold a Harvest, Christmas and Easter Services in All Saints’ Church, as well as various workshops through the year. They act as a wonderful opportunity for our children to experience worship at the local Church.

Parents have the right to withdraw their children from Collective Worship.  Please contact the Headteacher to discuss the alternative arrangements that could be made for your child.

Collective Worship Planning

We carefully plan our collective worship to ensure that children get the opportunity to learn more about the school values whilst marking the key events in the Christian calendar. To aid us with this we have devised a two pronged approach:

School Led –

Our school-led collective worship is based on the ‘Out of the Box’ resources. These are values led collective worship resources that focus on five key themes – Books and Stories, Famous Faces, Times and Places, British Values, and Faith Heroes.

Church Led –

The Church-led collective worship sessions follow a carefully crafted plan that encompasses all of the school values and regularly recaps on the theological grounding of the school vision. These sessions also include all of the major Christian events and celebrations through the year.

Singing Assembly –

Moorlands is a singing school. We believe that singing together gives us the chance to reflect and experience moments of awe and wonder. Each week we learn or revisit a new song. This is then used throughout all collective worship sessions that week. We also use singing as an opportunity to bring our two schools together, using the wonders of technology to sing songs together over two sites.

Monitoring of Collective Worship

Our collective worship is monitored by senior staff, but more importantly by the children. We monitor to ensure that we are always improving and offering a high quality, spiritual opportunity:

Pupil Monitoring

Our pupils get the opportunity to review and respond to collective worship every week. Review surveys are carried out by collective worship monitors and posted on a display board near the hall. The surveys focus on four key questions and are reviewed regularly by the Head of School alongside the children. The feedback from these session feeds directly in to future improvements.
